On October 18, 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., Black Lake RCMP received a report of two overdue hunters.

The hunters did not return from a trip as expected. Community members began searching for the hunters, both adult males.

Shortly after, Black Lake RCMP received a second report that a deceased adult male was located near an empty boat in the water south of Black Lake. It has been determined he was one of the missing hunters. His family has been notified. Based on preliminary investigation, his death is not believed to be suspicious in nature. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service will work to determine his cause of death.

The other hunter is still missing.

Numerous parties are involved in the search for him. These include the Black Lake Denesuline First Nation, community members and search-and-rescue groups, Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Black Lake detachment, Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Air Services.

The search area is a remote location south of Black Lake.
