Leader RCMP are investigating after a SUV impersonated police and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
On October 13, 2026 at approximately 9:15 p.m., Leader RCMP received a report that a SUV with blue and red flashing lights attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Lancer, SK.
Investigation determined a truck pulled over onto the shoulder of Highway #32 after observing emergency lights behind them. The SUV with lights stopped behind it. None of the SUV’s occupants approached the truck. The truck later drove away; the driver of the truck did not come in contact with the occupants of the SUV. The SUV was described to police as red with silver rims.
Leader RCMP determined the SUV is not connected to any policing agencies or units operating in the area.
As part of the investigation, officers collected video surveillance that captured the SUV driving in Abbey, SK. A photo of the SUV is attached, and video of the SUV is available here. The video link will only be available for a 24-hour period. Due to this, we ask that news partners do not share the video link directly and instead download or screen-record the video. Please note that the video was recorded prior to the SUV’s interaction with the truck near Lancer. We do not have descriptors of SUV occupants.
At this time, police have not located the SUV. Leader RCMP continue to investigate.
Officers remind the public that it is illegal to impersonate police. If you think you are being followed by an imitation police vehicle, contact RCMP immediately. If you’ve pulled over for or encountered the SUV described above, please contact RCMP.
As this investigation continues, Leader RCMP would like residents to remember that:
- The public can request identification from RCMP officers.
- If you have concerns during a police vehicle stop, you may request to see an officer’s badge and ID card. Both the badge and ID card will show the same regimental number and the ID card will have a photo.
- If you have further concerns, when it is safe to do so, call the RCMP to verify the identity of the officer or individual involved.
Anyone with information about this investigation, or who is looking to verify a police officer’s identify, can call Leader RCMP by dialling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
