Prince Albert CRT arrest 12 and seize firearms and cocaine in Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation

Twelve individuals arrested as well as 6 firearms and 28 grams of cocaine seized as a result of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Crime Reduction Unit (CRT) drug trafficking investigation. 

On September 17, 2026, Prince Albert CRT requested the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Critical Incident Program (CIP) to execute three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrants at three residences on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

During the search of the three residences on the same day, police officers arrested a total of 12 individuals and located and seized one shotgun, two carbines, two replica pistols, one sawed-off rifle, 28 grams of cocaine, and a sum of cash.

Eleven of the 12 arrested individuals have been released without charges.

As a result of police investigation, 57-year-old Sheldon Ahenakew, from Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, has been charged with:

• one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; 
• one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
• one count, unsafe storage of firearms, 86(2), Criminal Code;
• two counts, possession of a firearm when knowing its possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; 
• one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; 
• one count, failure to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code; and
• two counts, failure to surrender a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

Sheldon Ahenakew has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Prince Albert on September 18, 2026. 

This police investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid.
