Update: La Ronge RCMP investigating report of firearm discharge in Sucker River

As a result of continued investigation, on September 9, La Ronge RCMP arrested an adult male in the La Ronge area.

34-year-old Garry Roberts from the La Ronge area is charged with:

• one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
• one count, carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and
• one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code. 

Garry Roberts and Amanda Venne appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on September 10, 2026.

Background

La Ronge RCMP are working to locate a suspect in relation to a firearms incident in Sucker River, SK. 

On September 7, 2026 at approximately 6:20 p.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge in Sucker River.

It was reported to police that a firearm was discharged from a car in the direction of a second vehicle. The occupants inside the second vehicle were not physically injured. 

Later that same evening, La Ronge RCMP located a car matching the suspect vehicle’s description in Sucker River. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop. The car did not stop for police. It fled heading north on Highway #102.

For safety reasons, officers set up a tire deflation device which the suspect’s car ran over, deflating its tires. The car came to a stop. A male and female exited the car and fled on foot into a treed area, north of Sucker River.

La Ronge RCMP began searching the area for the suspects with the assistance of a remotely piloted aircraft system. An adult female was located and arrested. At this time, the male has not been located.

During a subsequent search of the suspect’s car, officers located and seized a firearm.

36-year-old Amanda Venne from the La Ronge area is charged with:

• one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
• one count, carrying a concealed weapon, Section 90(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
• one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code; and 
• one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code.

Amanda Venne is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on September 10, 2026.

La Ronge RCMP continue to investigate, which includes working to identify and locate the outstanding male suspect.
