Carrot River RCMP charge one after firearm incident on Shoal Lake Cree Nation

An adult male has been arrested and charged following a firearm incident on Shoal Lake Cree Nation. 

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 9:20 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of an adult male pointing a firearm at people outside a residence on Shoal Lake Cree Nation. Officers responded immediately. No injuries were reported to police. 

Upon arriving on the scene, it was determined that the male with the firearm had entered the residence.  

Carrot River RCMP, with assistance from Nipawin RCMP and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, officers located and arrested the adult male and seized a firearm. 

As a result of continued investigation, 24-year-old Mikey Bear of Shoal Lake Cree Nation has been charged with: 

  • one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code; 
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession was unauthorized, Section 92(2), Criminal Code; 
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code; 
  • one count, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, Section 85(1)(a), Criminal Code; 
  • one count, uttering threats against a person, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code; 
  • one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code; and
  • three counts, failure to comply with a release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code. 

Mikey Bear is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on June 3, 2026. (# 90650501).
