Prince District RCMP have arrested a 65-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder following an incident at a residence in Cape Wolfe.

On October 15, 2026, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Prince District RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence in Cape Wolfe. Officers learned that a 65-year-old man had used a pillow to attempt to suffocate a man in his 80s.

Another person in the home heard the commotion and intervened, preventing further harm. Police subsequently arrested the 65-year-old man without incident. The victim and the accused were known to one another.

“This was a serious and violent incident that could have had tragic consequences,” said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Commanding Officer for the PEI RCMP. “The victim was fortunate that another person in the home heard the disturbance and intervened when they did. Their actions likely prevented a much more devastating outcome. Incidents involving violence against vulnerable individuals are deeply concerning, and allegations of this nature are investigated thoroughly. We are grateful for the quick actions of the individual who intervened.”

David Alfred Howard was remanded in custody in Summerside Provincial Court yesterday. He will appear in court again today at 09:00 a.m. to answer to a single charge of attempted murder.

Prince District RCMP is being assisted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section. The investigation remains ongoing.
