Fort Simpson arrest youth wanted on Canada-wide warrant and seize cash and suspected crack cocaine

The Fort Simpson seized cash, suspected cocaine, weapons and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop, and arrested and detained a youth wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant.

On August 14th, 2026, the Fort Simpson RCMP were patrolling on the Mackenzie Highway when they intercepted a vehicle near the turnoff to Jean Marie River.

Inside the vehicle, officers located a 17-year-old youth wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant. Officers arrested the youth.

During the search incidental to the arrest, officers located drug residue, weapons and ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. The youth was brought into custody.

On September 4th, a further search of a safe seized from the youth revealed $12,580 in Canadian currency, 144 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

As a result, the 17-year-old youth, originally from Saskatchewan, has been charged with:

- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule I: Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
- 11 counts of Failure to comply with release order condition, contrary to section 145(5)(b) of the Criminal Code
- Two counts of Failure to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

The youth has been remanded into custody, pending court. The investigation remains ongoing.
