Kinngait Man Charged with First Degree Murder

On August 7, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Kinngait RCMP responded to a report of a shooting. Police located the male who barricaded himself in a residence in the 5400 block of Kinngait, Nunavut.
Police issued a “Shelter-in-Place” alert advising residents of Kinngait of the ongoing police operations. The Nunavut RCMP Containment Team and an Emergency Response Team from Ottawa arrived in Kinngait to assist.
On August 8, 2026, the Nunavut RCMP Major Crime Unit arrested and charged Ezeevadluk Suvega (age 42), with:
- First-degree murder, contrary to Section 235 of the Criminal Code.
The victim is a 36-year-old woman, known to Suvega. Police will not be releasing her name in respect to her family’s privacy.
On August 9, 2026, Suvega was brought before a Judge and remanded into custody where he is scheduled to appear in court on September 15, 2026, in Iqaluit, Nunavut. As the matter is now before the courts, police will not be releasing any further details.
