The RCMP Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit (NEN MCU) is continuing to investigate a 2025 suspicious death as a homicide and appealing to the public for information.
On August 30, 2025, Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on New Campbellton Rd. and located a deceased man in the car. No one else was inside the vehicle.
The man’s death was considered suspicious and the Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit assumed lead of the investigation.
Working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, the man was identified as Emerson Elliot Dixon, 43, of Whitney Pier and his death was confirmed to be a homicide. Dixon was the subject of a well-being investigation in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality that began on August 28.
Investigators are now releasing the victim’s name and a description of the car, a 2011 blue Chevrolet Malibu, owned by a person known to Dixon. Police hope members of the public will come forward with information.
Anyone with information pertaining to Dixon’s whereabouts and activities between August 23 and 27 or with any other information regarding this incident is asked to contact the NEN MCU at 902-896-5060 and reference file number 2025-1279678.
