A man has been arrested following the seizure of stolen property linked to thefts from retail businesses throughout Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM).
The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment (HRD) Community Action Response Team (CART), in partnership with loss prevention officers from liquor and building supply retailers in HRM, identified a person of interest believed to be involved in multiple thefts and the fraudulent acquisition of building materials using credit.
On October 13, RCMP HRD CART, with assistance from the RCMP HRD Street Crime Enforcement Unit, RCMP HRD community policing officers, the RCMP/HRP Criminal Investigation Division Financial Crime Unit, and the RCMP Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Simmonds Rd. in North Preston.
A significant quantity of stolen goods was seized, including building materials, construction tools, mugs, perfume and alcohol. The estimated value of the stolen property exceeds $50,000. A truck believed to have been used in the commission of the thefts was also seized.
A 55-year-old North Preston man was arrested for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He was released on conditions and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
The investigation is ongoing, with support from the affected retailers’ loss prevention officers, Nova Scotia Civil Forfeiture, and the RCMP/HRD Criminal Investigation Division Financial Crime Unit.
