Kings District RCMP is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Grand Pré.

On October 18, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a Kings District RCMP officer observed a grey Honda Civic travelling at a high rate of speed through downtown Wolfville. The officer attempted a traffic stop; however, the Civic failed to pull over and continued toward Grand Pré at a high speed.

While attempting the traffic stop, the police vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash just outside Wolfville. The officer was transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 1:53 a.m., Kings District RCMP, EHS, and fire services responded to a crash notification on Hwy. 1 in Grand Pré.

When officers arrived, they found that the grey Honda Civic carrying five occupants had left the roadway and gone over an embankment.

An 18-year-old man from Prospect Bay was pronounced deceased at the scene. Of the four remaining occupants, three were transported to hospital by EHS, while a fourth man was transported by EHS LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended both crash locations and the investigation is ongoing with support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) will review the preliminary evidence to determine whether the matter falls within its mandate for investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the collisions, including those with dashcam, doorbell, or other relevant video footage, is asked to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555.

Our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.
