RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has charged three individuals following a break and enter and is seeking public assistance to identify two others.

On June 6, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a business on Hwy. 7 in Beaver Harbour.  Officers learned that four masked men had arrived in a silver sedan, broken the gate, and were walking around the property.

Officers attended the scene and placed a tire deflation device at the exit gate.  The silver sedan, a Toyota Yaris containing five occupants, attempted to flee, drove over the device, and continued westbound on Hwy. 7. The Yaris came to a stop after its tires deflated and the occupants fled on foot into nearby woods.  The vehicle was later determined to be stolen out of Pictou County.

A woman was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Two men matching the suspect descriptions were later reported to be hitchhiking on Hwy. 7 near the scene and were subsequently arrested.

Sonya Lynn Baker, 24, of Halifax Regional Municipality; Brett Edward Hennessey, 31, of Thorburn; and Dylan Briar Rutledge, 33, of Sheet Harbour, are charged with:

  • Break and Enter with Intent
  • Mischief
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Theft Under $5000

Hennessey is also charged with Flight from Police.  Rutledge faces additional charges of Flight from Police, Possession of Break-In Instruments, and Failing to Comply with a Release Order (five counts).

Baker appeared in Halifax Provincial Court, while Hennessey and Rutledge appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 8.  Rutledge remains in custody until his next scheduled court appearance on July 13. Baker and Hennessey were released and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on August 17.

Investigators are still looking to identify two other persons of interest.  One man is described as approximately 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds.  At the time of the break and enter, he was wearing a grey and black baseball cap, a hooded sweater, a greenish face covering, and rubber boots.  The other man is described as approximately 5-foot-10. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, a white crewneck long-sleeved shirt, black pants and white sneakers.
