RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment has arrested a man for impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash in Ostrea Lake.

On June 2, at approximately 3:05 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, EHS and fire services responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Ostrea Lake Rd. While enroute, officers learned that a Dodge Caravan had struck a tree and that the driver, who displayed signs of impairment, was leaving the scene.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses who indicated the driver had fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

With the assistance of a remotely piloted aircraft system, the Halifax Regional Police Canine Unit and members of the public, the driver was located and arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment, where he refused to provide breath samples.

Steven Gordon Miller, 53, from Pleasant Point, is charged with:

  • Impaired Driving
  • Refusal to Comply with a Breath Demand
  • Driving while Prohibited
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Consent

He appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 3 and was released. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 6.

Impaired driving remains a serious risk to road safety. Witness reports and timely information from community members are often critical in locating and stopping impaired drivers. Anyone who observes suspected impaired driving is urged to call 911.
