A 37-year-old wanted man was arrested by Bay St. George RCMP after attempting to flee on foot from officers Monday afternoon. Carl Junior (CJ) Young will appear in court today to face four Criminal Code charges including resisting arrest.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on November 2, police in Stephenville responded to a reported theft at a store on Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville. Witnesses were able to provide officers with a description of the suspect, and surveillance photos confirmed that the man was also a suspect in a similar theft.
Later in the day, Bay St. George RCMP officers conducting proactive patrols in the Seal Cove Road area of Stephenville Crossing located the man and attempted to take him into custody. When approached, he failed to obey police commands and fled from officers on foot.
Officers from the Bay St. George detachment, West District General Investigation Section and RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in a search for the suspect.
Carl Junior (CJ) Young, 37, was located at a Seal Cove residence a short time later and taken into police custody without incident.
He was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in court today (Wednesday), where he will face charges of:
- Theft under $5,000 – two counts
- Resisting or obstructing a peace officer
- Failure to comply with a Probation Order
The investigation is continuing.
