Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP investigates suspicious fire, public’s assistance needed

Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP are investigating an overnight fire that resulted in damages inside a former church and heritage building. The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread and cause significant damages and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them.

On Thursday September 24, shortly after 8:00 p.m., Placentia and Whitbourne RCMP responded to a report of a fire discovered inside the former St. Lukes Anglican Church near Banker’s Road and McKendrich Street in Placentia.

The fire was fully extinguished by the Placentia Volunteer Fire Department, before it could spread further throughout the heritage building.

No injuries were reported to police in the incident.

The provincial Fire Commissioner’s Office has been consulted, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
