RCMP Traffic Services East suspended the license of a 23-year-old man Thursday evening, after he was caught driving more than 51 km/hr over the posted speed limit.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on September 10, an officer patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Paddy’s Pond on radar travelling at speeds up to 153 km/hr where the posted speed limit is 100 km/hr. The driver, a 23-year-old British Columbia man, was issued a ticket for speeding and his licence was suspended roadside.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador reminds all drivers to slow down and be safe on our roads this weekend. 

Speed is one of the most common contributors to serious roadway incidents. There are significant penalties: under the Highway Traffic Act, drivers who are caught travelling 51 km/hr or more above the posted speed limit can face immediate licence suspension, vehicle impound and demerit points. But the consequences can be far more serious, as speed increases the risk of collisions and can lead to severe or life-threatening consequences for everyone on our roads.
