Labrador District GIS arrests three after traffic stop results in seizure of drugs

Three people were arrested by the RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section (GIS) on Tuesday afternoon during a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

On September 8, Labrador District GIS was conducting proactive patrols in Happy Valley-Goose Bay stopped a vehicle on Trudeau Street, and when officers approached the vehicle, they observed a suspected illegal substance inside. The driver and two passengers exited the vehicle and were arrested without incident.

With the assistance of officers from the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP detachment the vehicle and its occupants were searched. During the search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.

One passenger, Marcus Peters, 22 of Sheshatshiu, was charged with possession of a controlled substance – cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and failure to comply with the conditions of a release order under the Criminal Code. He was held in custody to appear in court on September 9 (Wednesday). He is expected to appear in court next on October 29.

The driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance – cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The 28-year-old Sheshatshiu woman was released from custody with conditions and will appear in provincial court in October 2026.

The remaining passenger was released without charge. 

The investigation is continuing, with further charges are possible.

Cocaine is a leading cause of overdose deaths in Newfoundland and Labrador. Naloxone is ineffective in combatting cocaine overdose.  If you suspect someone is overdosing on cocaine, immediately seek medical attention by calling 911.
