A 77-year-old woman from Montague, PEI, a 56-year-old man from Warren Grove, PEI, and a 23-year-old woman from Nine Mile Creek, PEI, have died following a two-vehicle collision in Melrose, N.B.
On July 7, 2026, at approximately 9:11 a.m., members of the Sackville RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Route 16, in Melrose, N.B.
The collision is believed to have occurred when the driver of an ambulance was travelling westbound and collided head-on with a transport truck.
The driver of the ambulance, a 56-year-old man from Warren Grove, PEI, and the two passengers, a 77-year-old woman from Montague, PEI, and a 23-year-old woman from Nine Mile Creek, PEI, died at the scene as a result of their injuries. The driver of the transport truck was transferred to hospital with what were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Richibucto, Shediac, and Caledonia RCMP Detachments, as well as Straight Shores Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, an RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft System operator (drone), a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's office, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Justice and Public Safety, and WorkSafe NB also attended the scene.
Both vehicles have been sent for a mechanical inspection.
Route 16 is still closed as the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
