On Nov. 4, at approximately 5:40 a.m., RCMP received a report of multiple shots being fired on Brown Avenue East in Dauphin.
Dauphin RCMP responded to the residence, which is known to have residents tied to local organized crime. Officers were supported by RCMP Police Dog Services, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP and Manitoba West District General Investigation Section (GIS).
RCMP cordoned off the area after finding evidence that a vehicle parked near the home had been shot at.
After initially being uncooperative, three people inside the garage came out and were safely taken into custody. However, others inside the residence refused to come out.
A crisis negotiator was called in to assist. At approximately 8:30 a.m., six more people emerged from the residence and were taken into custody.
RCMP subsequently obtained a search warrant for the home, where a modified pellet gun was located.
Dean Levasseur, 39, of Dauphin is charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
- Failure to comply with a release order condition x3.
He was remanded into custody.
Others taken into custody during the incident were released without charge.
The investigation continues.
