Westman RCMP arrest wanted male, find sawed-off firearm

On Nov. 1, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Westman RCMP were conducting neighbourhood patrols on the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation when they saw a male wanted on a warrant of arrest.

The suspect fled from RCMP on foot and ran into a residence. Officers received consent from the homeowner to enter the home, at which point they found him in a bedroom and in possession of a loaded sawed-off .22-calibre firearm.

Connor Wanbdiska, 18, of Brandon is charged with:

• Possession of a firearm knowing that possession is unauthorized;
• Unsafe storage of a firearm;
• Possession of a restricted firearm; and
• Weapons possession contrary to order x2.

Wanbdiska was remanded into custody.
