The RCMP West District GIS arrested a male wanted for breaching court-ordered conditions on Oct. 17, then found two large knives on him during the arrest.

On Oct. 17, at approximately 9 p.m., the RCMP West District General Investigation Section (GIS) pulled over a vehicle that was carrying a passenger believed to be breaching court-ordered conditions.

The traffic stop occurred on Buchy Place in Dauphin, shortly after RCMP saw a male leave a nearby residence and get into the vehicle.

An officer approached and began speaking to the vehicle’s occupants. The male passenger gave the officer a false name. However, the officer recognized the passenger, knew he was on conditions to not attend the residence he had just departed and was wanted on two warrants of arrest – one of which was for an assault.

The suspect was arrested. During the arrest, RCMP found he had two large knives on him.

Richard Cook-McDonald, 31, of Peguis First Nation is charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • Obstructing a peace officer; and
  • Failure to comply with release order condition x4.

Cook-McDonald was remanded into custody.
