On Sept. 17, at 8:15 p.m., Pembina Valley RCMP responded to a three-vehicle collision in Reinfeld.

Local firefighters were already at the scene when officers arrived, the three damaged vehicles stopped and blocking traffic on the road.

Officers learned all three vehicles were headed westbound on Highway 14 when the lead vehicle slowed to turn south onto Reinfeld Street North. The second vehicle also slowed. The third vehicle then collided with the rear of the second vehicle, whose impact propelled it into the lead vehicle.

The collisions caused extensive damage to the front and rear of the second vehicle. The driver of the vehicle – a 40-year-old Winkler male – was transported to hospital via air ambulance in Winnipeg, where he later died of his injuries.

The drivers of the third vehicle – a 41-year-old male from the RM of Stanley – was taken to local hospital as a precaution. The driver of the first vehicle, an 18-year-old Plum Coulee female,  was uninjured.

RCMP are investigating. A traffic reconstructionist from RCMP Traffic Services was called to the scene to assist.
