SC File # 2026-1824

During the early morning hours of March 12th 2026, a male suspect broke into two adjacent business properties owned and operated by the local Shishalh Nation, in Sechelt, BC. The suspect forced entry into the Tems Swiya Museum and the Tsain-Ko Westcoast Native Gifts and Art. The suspect then stole approximately $50,000 in jewelry and computer equipment. CCTV footage captured much of the offence however, the suspect utilized a blanket to cover his body while committing the offence.

A comprehensive review of all available CCTV revealed a brief glimpse of distinctive markings on the suspect. Sunshine Coast RCMP were able to quickly link this marking to a known local offender. At just after 7:00 pm on March 12th the suspect was located and arrested without incident. The RCMP recovered what they believe to be most, if not all of the stolen items.

The suspect is currently in police custody while the investigation continues. Sunshine Coast RCMP will be recommending to Crown Counsel charges of Break & Enter over $5000 & Possession of Stolen Property over $5000.

The museum and many of the items stolen have significant spiritual and cultural significance to the Shishalh Nation and their recovery was a priority for the Sunshine Coast RCMP. The Sunshine Coast RCMP would like to acknowledge the immediate support of numerous community partners, especially the Shishalh Nation, who were integral in assisting with providing all the information for police to swiftly investigate and arrest the suspect.
