Calls of interest:

On the morning of October 21, Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit conducted a safety enforcement campaign along North Railway Avenue, near the Westcoast Express station.  Numerous vehicles were stopped for speeding and other traffic infractions, including a 36-year-old man from Surrey, who was driving at 91 km/hr in the 40 km/hr zone (his car was impounded for 7 days, and he received a hefty violation ticket). Officers stress the importance of slowing down through that area, where there are numerous crosswalks, intersections, parked cars, and pedestrian traffic utilizing the transit facilities and the skybridge across the tracks.

A security guard called police around 6 pm on October 19, after he was assaulted at his jobsite.  The guard was stationed at a property on Preston Boulevard, off the Cedar Valley Connector, when a woman trespassed onto the property he was looking after.  He asked her to leave, at which point she allegedly threatened him and spat in his face.  The woman was arrested nearby for assault and uttering threats.  After being arrested, the woman was released with a court date and conditions not to have contact with the man.  Later the same night, the security guard was at Mission Memorial Hospital, getting checked for any contagious diseases due to being spit on, when the woman also showed up at the hospital, and staff reported she was causing a disturbance.  She was arrested again and held to appear in provincial court the following day.

Around 10 pm on October 19, Mission RCMP were called to a BC Transit bus on Cherry Avenue near Cade Barr Street, due to two drunk persons hanging off the bike rack on the front of the bus, preventing the bus from driving.  Officers took a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman into custody, at which time the man allegedly started trying to spit on the officer, and threatened to kill the officer.  Both intoxicated individuals were held in custody to sober, and the bus was at last able to proceed, to continue dropping off its passengers.

A grey 2002 Ford F-350 was stolen from outside a house on 6th Avenue at around 2:30 am on October 20.  It was then left on Laminman Avenue around 3:30 am on October 23, and has since been recovered by police.  Extensive damage had been done to it, after CCTV footage showed it crashing head-first into a parked car on Best Avenue that same night.  Anyone with information about this theft should call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 2026-13851.

Mission RCMP were called to 2nd Avenue on the afternoon of October 25, to speak with several individuals who had been suspected of starting unsafe fires in the past. Officers confirmed that they had not started a fire on that occasion, but identified one of the people – a 42-year-old man – as being a known offender with outstanding arrest warrants for 8 breaches of his probation, 4 breaches of a Release Order, 2 charges of impaired driving, and 2 charges of refusing to provide a breath sample.  He was arrested and held for a court appearance.

On the night of October 24, an officer observed a white Dodge Ram pickup leave the shopping plaza at Stave Lake Street and 11th Avenue, and head northbound on Stave Lake Street.  The truck was seen to be swerving across both the center line and the fog line, and nearly collided with another vehicle when making a turn.  The driver had a strong odour of liquor on his breath and glazed eyes. He was issued a demand to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device, but refused to comply, saying he only lived a block away.  The driver lost his truck to the impound lot for 30 days, and has been prohibited from driving for 90 days.
