Fictitious emails target local businesses

Several local businesses have been victims of fraud after receiving emails for marketing events.
On September 15, 2026, police received a complaint outlining numerous fraudulent emails requesting payment for an upcoming event in the city. Someone posing as a representative of the organizing committee has been able to get funds from businesses by utilizing emails.
“The fictitious emails received are from very similar email addresses that the organizing committee use, however, upon a closer look there are some differences,” said Corporal Dana Napier, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP. “This is a reminder to pay careful attention to emails where payment is being requested and to confirm with official organizers the legitimacy of the request prior to payment.”
The organizing committee is working to notify businesses, and the Kamloops RCMP Detachment continues to investigate.
