The Kamloops RCMP Detachment and the BC Coroners Service are investigating after a young man lost his life in a scooter incident last weekend.
At approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday August 16, 2026, frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP Detachment were called to a local area hospital for assistance in investigating a scooter incident involving an 18-year-old local man.
The young man had been rushed to hospital by BC Emergency Services, after being located near Battle Street and Lee Road just before 4 a.m. He suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead in hospital.
“Frontline officers attended the scene of the incident and have seized the motorized scooter for further investigation. A helmet was not located, suggesting he may not have been wearing one at the time.” states S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP. “There is no evidence to suggest that another vehicle was involved.”
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends as they navigate through this unthinkable tragedy.”
If you were a witness to this incident and have not already spoken with police, you are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2026-27084.
