On February 26, 2026, between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. MST, the Trans Canada Highway between Golden to Revelstoke, BC is closed to allow for avalanche control measures.
Further to the Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks, avalanche hazard is increasing as snowfall and strong wind load persistent weak layers – avalanche control is required.
A traffic management plan for the highway closure was set forth by the Ministry of Transportation. Please be respectful to the flaggers in the area while they are carrying out traffic control measures which apply to all commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Please be mindful of designated no parking zones and fire lanes as bylaw fines would apply.
“Please be sure to pre-plan your trips by referring to DriveBC,” says Golden-Field RCMP Media Relations Officer Constable Donna Freeman. “Highway closures are set in place to ensure public safety in areas where avalanche control operations are being conducted. DriveBC provides real-time information and updates on highway closures and conditions.”
