Now is the time to be a Mountie!

Are you an experienced peace officer (ExPO) looking for a new career path, full of exciting opportunities and fresh challenges? 

The RCMP is expanding the number of pathways to become a Mountie and is launching a new pilot program for Experienced Peace Officers (ExPO) who reside in British Columbia and the Yukon. Applications are now open for peace officers who are actively serving as a firearm trained Peace Officer from a Canadian federal agency and have been serving for the past three years.

Successful applicants will be placed in available frontline positions within B.C. or the Yukon, upon completion of the ExPO Cadet Training Program (approximately three-and-a-half months paid training at RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack, B.C.).

The application process is discreet, and your current employer will not be contacted without your prior knowledge.  Successful ExPO applicants will receive the same competitive benefits and pensions as all RCMP police officers and will be placed into available frontline positions in the Yukon or B.C.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Experienced Peace Officer Program you must:

  • Be actively serving as a firearm trained Peace Officer from a Canadian federal agency and have been serving for the past three years.
  • Firearms trained and certified
  • ExPO applicants will be required to successfully pass the RCMP Police Fitness Assessment (PFA) to the gold standard.

Current intake is open for firearms trained Peace Officers from Canadian federal agencies. 
Future plans are in development to expand the program for firearms trained peace officers from provincial or territorial agencies.

Application process for Experienced Peace Officers

A step-by-step guide to patching over to the RCMP.

Step 1: Initial inquiry

Contact the ExPO Program at 778-290-3456 or EDiv_ExPO@rcmp-grc.gc.ca with an expression of interest and details about yourself.

Step 2: Intake interview

A Recruiting officer will conduct an interview, review your peace experience and plan for desired posts within BC. A posting will only be determined with your input and review by the Career Development and Resourcing Officer.

Step 3: Package completion

You have two weeks (14 days) to complete the required paperwork.

Step 4: Police Fitness Assessment

You will be required to complete the RCMP Police Fitness Assessment to Bona Fide Occupational Requirement (Gold standard). Each phase of the assessment measures and replicates common, physical tasks that may occur in policing. You can find more information at RCMP Police Fitness Assessment.

Step 5: File review

The Recruiting team will conduct an in-depth file review. Upon successful completion, the team will initiate medical and RCMP security clearance checks.

Step 6: Reference checks

The Recruiting team will conduct interviews with character and employer references.

Step 7: ExPO Onboarding

Once selected, you will be placed in your home detachment for onboarding and to complete the mandatory training courses needed in order to begin your Cadet Training Program.

Step 8: ExPO Cadet Training Program

You will attend the RCMP Experienced Peace Officer cadet training program at the Pacific Region Training Centre (Chilliwack, B.C.) for three and a half months to acquire knowledge of RCMP-specific procedures and tactics. Upon completion, you will begin your first posting.

Note: Proof of firearm training and annual certification will be requested by a Recruiting Officer.
